Johnson Consulting Group Launches Tax Services for the Funeral and Cemetery Profession, Names Chris Duncan Director of Tax Services

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – September 30, 2026 – Johnson Consulting Group (JCG), a leading consultancy for the funeral home and cemetery profession, today announced the launch of Tax Services, a new addition to its accounting and financial management offerings built specifically for funeral home and cemetery owners and operators. Chris Duncan, a CPA with more than 25 years of public accounting experience, has joined JCG to lead the practice as Director of Tax Services.

Between compliance filings, ownership decisions, and the day-to-day of running a funeral home or cemetery, tax planning is easy to put off until it’s urgent. JCG’s tax team works with owners and operators year-round, not just during tax season, keeping them compliant, reducing surprises, and providing the guidance they need so they can focus on what matters most.

The new practice centers on three areas of support:

  • Complete, accurate compliance: Business, individual, trust, and estate returns handled correctly and on time, with support for multi-state filings, notices, and correspondence.
  • Planning that looks ahead: Entity structure, owner compensation, depreciation, and succession-related tax strategy, built around where a business is headed, not just where it has been.
  • Guidance when it matters most: Tax modeling and due diligence for acquisitions, sales, and ownership transitions, informed by JCG’s experience across the funeral and cemetery profession.

Industry knowledge matters. JCG’s tax services complement the firm’s more than 800 years of combined profession experience, helping clients evaluate growth opportunities, succession decisions, acquisitions, sales, and capital investments with the tax impact in mind from the start.

Duncan brings more than 25 years of experience in public accounting, with a focus on tax compliance, planning, and consulting. His career includes time with national and regional accounting firms, as well as ownership of his own CPA firm. He is a licensed CPA in North Carolina and South Carolina and works with businesses and individuals on a wide range of tax planning and compliance matters, including state and local tax issues and the tax implications of business sales and acquisitions.

“It’s not what you get, it’s what you keep, and for too long tax planning has been the thing funeral home and cemetery owners put off until it’s already too late to do anything about it. Chris brings the kind of experience that changes that, and having him lead this practice means the people we work with get real strategy, not just a return filed once a year. I’m excited for what this adds to how we serve the profession.” said Jake Johnson, President and CEO of Johnson Consulting Group.

“Good tax planning works the same way in every profession: get ahead of the deadline instead of reacting to it. That’s what I’ve spent the last 25 years building for business owners, and I’m excited to bring that same approach to the funeral home and cemetery owners and operators JCG serves.” said Chris Duncan, Director of Tax Services at Johnson Consulting Group.
