The setting may have been a French-style chateau, but the menu was all about Spain.
When they celebrated their union at the gorgeous La Caille event venue in Sandy, Utah, this beautiful couple wanted to treat their guests to something unique, delicious, and deeply personal. Drawing from their Spanish connections, they asked us to create a fiesta of flavors that featured the bold, sun-drenched tastes of Spain.
We were all too happy to oblige!

Hidden Personal Touches
One of the loveliest parts of the celebration was discovering the little personal touches tucked throughout the day. Blending into the decorations, peeping out from the bouquets, and even hidden inside the groom’s tie, these small details might have gone unnoticed at first glance but made the celebration unmistakably theirs. Like little secrets shared between the couple and their guests, they invited people to look a little closer, smile, and feel the thoughtfulness behind every part of the day.

La Caille is well known for its beloved ducks, geese, peacocks, and swans. But sharing the pond with a quartet of floating musicians…that was different!

Following a gorgeous ceremony (in the presence of the most gentlemanly and well-behaved witness ever), the celebración began.

A Spanish-Influenced Menu
During the cocktail hour, as the paella boiled and bubbled in the background, guests helped themselves to a Mediterranean mezze display and artisan charcuterie board with local Utah cheeses and honeycomb, Creminelli salumi and prosciutto, olives, fruits, confit cherry tomatoes, baba ganoush, green chickpea hummus, and more.
A pan con tomate station featured house-made ciabatta rubbed with garlic and olive oil, toasted, and topped with grated tomatoes with fresh-ground pepper and salt.
Over at the refreshment station, guests enjoyed drinks including caramelized brown sugar saffron lemonade.

Dinner started with a Calabrian chili Caesar salad followed by a tapas course featuring coles de bruselas and patatas bravas.
The piping hot paella that guests had been smelling and asking about all evening finally arrived with the entrée course. And for dessert, guests dug into Spanish flan as well as tiramisu.
Beginning to end, this menu told a story about the couple: where they came from, what they love, and how they wanted to celebrate with the people who matter most.
In Spanish, there’s a word—sobremesa—that describes the time spent at the table after a meal, when people linger to chat, enjoy each other’s company, and prolong the moment. This cultural practice is something we love because it aligns with our main goal at Culinary Crafts, bringing people together over great food. We strive to create that kind of closeness, contentment, and connection through exceptional hospitality, so it’s always gratifying to see guests lingering for hours because they don’t want it to be over.

We have to add, we’ve done a lot of wedding cakes at Culinary Crafts—either creating them ourselves or serving someone else’s cake to guests—but this was one of the most fun and memorable cakes we’ve seen. A variation on a milhojas (the Spanish version of the mille-feuille or “thousand layer cake”), this creation was a multi-sensory delight. It traded the traditional towering tiers for delicate layers of crisp pastry and creamy filling, finished with a beautiful, almost architectural simplicity. It was elegant, delicious, and audacious without being fussy or feeling like a gimmick. It brought a little piece of Spain to a French château in the Utah mountains.
As the evening stretched on, with glasses raised, plates passed, and conversation lingering long after dinner, the spirit of sobremesa seemed to take hold. For us, that’s what a great wedding feast is all about: not simply feeding people, but giving them something delicious to gather around—and a reason to linger together just a little longer.
